2. Elections
NIJL / EAJRS kotenseki seminar
The 2nd NIJL/EAJRS Kotenseki online Seminar will be held on 18 October. This year's theme is pre-modern Buddhist works. All interested individuals are welcome to attend.
For your information: Last year's Seminar, which examined how to read the characters engraved on seals which found in pre-modern Japanese books, can be viewed here.

Automation, AI, and Coding (2024)
This presentation offers a framework to explore automating various aspects of work in Japanese studies librarianship using AI tools such as ChatGPT and CoPilot. Progressively complex use cases will demonstrate immediate solutions requiring little to no technical expertise, and advance to more sophisticate solutions that highlight AI's limits in automation and problem solving.
The framework I propose is built on several interrelated pillars: verifiability; expedience; expertise, both in subject matter and technical prowess; and active vs. passive learning.

The National Diet Library, Japan (NDL) is holding a symposium "Building on the 'Digital Shift' – Implications for the future in the Library of Congress' new strategic plan" on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Tokyo Main Library of the NDL.
* This symposium will be held in-person only. A recorded video will be available on the NDL’s YouTube channel at a later date.

EAJRS-NIHU Collaborative Activity for the Resource Guide for Japanese Studies and Humanities in Japan
人文機構（NIHU）で2015年から構築している、「国際リンク集」について紹介したいと思います。NIHUとEAJRSは新たにこのリンク集に関して共同の取り組みを始めようとしています。私たちは共同で編集グループを組織して、研究リソースの専門家によって継続的にこのリンク集の質の向上・維持に当たっていこうとしています。
リンク集は人文学や日本研究に関する、また日本や国外の研究機関の資料に関するURLを集めたディレクトリです。特徴は以下のようなものです。
